Sewing Two Pieces Of Leather Together At A Right Angle

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to sew a heel counter directly to the midsole of the shoe (both are ~6oz vegetable tanned leather) at a right angle- the sole being horizontal and the heel counter, which cups the heel, being approximately vertical. The heel counter sits on top of the sole. Is there any sort of stitching method that's ideal for this? I'm doing a contrived half-whipstitch half- saddlestitch that's functional but ugly. I'm thinking that perhaps two rows of punched holes in the sole with the counter sitting in between the rows would work better but takes up significantly more room. I can post a photo if any of this is really unclear.
