Like the carving, but it looks like you have the same problem I do I get i to much of a hurry and don't wait for the dye to dry. What I started doing was to put 2 or 3 coats of finish on the outside areas it acts as before I dye it acts as a resist that way if I do get dye on the outside boarders it comes.

Thanks Doug, the borders really burnished heavily on this leather but they appear darker in this photo than they really are. I didn't use any dye, just oil, resist, and antique. It really makes sense to put more layers of resist on the borders, I will try that on the next one.
