  1. Thank you everyone for your replies! -Samalan, I have read many recommendations for Steve on other forums, and just couldn't find his name again, so thank you! I have heard great things about him, and know he would be a trustworthy and helpful person to go through. Does he help you pick a specific machine? Or give suggestions? -Wizcrafts, thanks for pointing out the leather thickness issue, I meant 12+16, so up to around 28 oz total. -BIGGUNDOCTOR, I have looked for used, I just maybe looking in the wrong places...but I think that comes down to not knowing exactly what I should be looking for! Could you give me some suggestions on where to look for good used machines and supplies?? Thank you again!
  2. Hello, I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction of a sewing machine. I would need it to sew 12-16 ounce leather possibly. Also, I'm wondering distributors or dealers that may take payments if possible, or just someone who wont take advantage of my 'lack of knowledge' in this area! Thank you in advance. -Dani
  3. Thanks Bruce, do you know if there is a way to bend the prongs on the spot between the layers that are already sewn together? Verses just them 'sticking in' there? or would there be a way to attach a different type of hardware(maybe a rivet is you put the backing in before sewing?) with the leather already sew together? Thanks again for you response!
  4. Thanks! Doesn't the nail polish chip? Like it does on nails? Also, does the sharpie color fade quickly?
  5. So this may seem like stupid question to many, but I'm pretty new at leatherwork. I've only completed a few belts and a breastcollar.... So I was wondering if it is possible to put spots/nails in two layers of leather if they are already sewn together, and somehow keep the prongs between the two layers? I'm not sure if that makes sense, but I've seen many items that have the spots, and it looks like there would have been no other way to attach them except after the leather has been sewn together. I've attached a picture of what I'm trying to explain, where it seems like the spots would have had to be added after the stitching, due to them overlapping the stitches.(This photo is not of anything I have made or plan to make, just as good of an example as I could find) If you can help that would be great, and if not I know it is kind of an awkward question!
  6. Thank you for the help! If I wanted to try to apply specific design, or say write my name, would I be able to do that with dye? Say I was under the impression that dye is 'watery' or to say thinner than paint. So would it run if I attempted to apply in a specific design like writing a name?(sorry I am horrible at describing what I'm trying to explain!) And can I ask if someone can tell me the difference between Eco-flo dyes & their Cova Colors? Thanks
  7. Hello everyone. I've been browsing the forums for sometime, and have found some good threads, and know there are more I haven't got to yet, but I need a little more details, if anyone can help. I have some leather skidboots that I want to paint(I would like to use acrylis for price and more color choices) I also have some plain veg-tanned leather(unfinished) I have cut to make a dog collar and a bronc noseband...I guess I'm asking if someone could tell me how they go about painting and sealing their leather, and if you could make product recomendations for a sealer/finishing agent that will kerp the paint from chipping/peeling/cracking, as well as add durability. Whew, that felt like a lot to ask. Huge thanks to anyone who can help
