Im looking to learn the craft, to maybe get an apprenticeship. Im interested in leather work that is used in the outdoors such as bags, sheaths, holsters, boots, etc. But i will learn how to do anything involving leatherwork if it means getting an apprenticeship.

  1. thanks, ill write down a list of what i need help on with my first project(a rectangular belt pouch) it might be pretty long haha
  2. what is LW, and yeah but i dont really have all the money i need to practice.
  3. well, i guess ill have to post some stuff on here that ive done on my own in order to attract attention, owell. Ill try again when i get some stuff done.
  4. i like the idea about slow expansion from one or two projects, i guess im going to start by making a pouch and a sheath for my knife to go along with it and i will go from there, i have some really good ideas for pouches i want to try out so i guess ill do that first.
  5. I live in NE Ohio and i was wondering if there was anyone around here that needed anyone to do anything from organizing stamps and hardware to cleaning up around the shop in turn for teaching me the trade. I am a hard worker and I am willing to learn all aspects of the craft but i am most interested in learning to make leather sheaths, bags etc.
  6. Im torn between the two, snaps would be alot easier to make and would allow for more customization (extrapockets etc) on the front of a pouch or bag, but when do i use a buckle and when do i use a snap. What one will last longer?
  7. Im trying to get into the craft. I want to learn how to make medieval style stuff like pouches, belts, archery gear, along with modern bags sheaths etc. Ive been doing some research and this is what ive gotten so far. What i Need: Leatherworking Shears Utility Knife Exacto Knife Leather punch set(what sizes would you recommend for a good all around set) steel ruler mallet wood block 6x6(what for?) harness needles glovers needles thread both sinew and waxed linen beeswax rubber cement or leatherweld mink oil for conditioning pattern making stuff(paper or foam board) straight awl What else would you suggest i add to my list. Thank you ahead of time curved awl
