  1. Howdy folks, I'm sure some of you have done this or come across it in the past. I have a client who wants me to make a few knife sheaths with the flesh side out to get it a rough look. My only problem is I'm worried about it fading with sun and rain exposure. So, how would I go about protecting it? Would I apply a few coats of leather sheen or gum trag or resolene? Or do I just leave it as is? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Blue Skies,
  2. Darrell, My respects to you. I'm always impressed with businesses who try to make things right. As a small businessman myself, I have come up against unhappy clients. Things smooth over so much better when we go out of our way to talk with them personally. Just the comment you posted, will make me want to look closer at your products. I feel better doing business with folks who do people right. Thanks.
  3. I'm a "little guy" in leather work & crafting things for practice, small gifts & such. I can't quite justify the higher quality hides at this point. I use S T Leather out of St. Louis. So far they have THE BEST prices I've come across (nearly half of Tandy & better quality). I would like to try ordering straight from the tanneries, if anyone has inside information to do that and whom to go through, I would appreciate it.
  4. I guess I'm just morbid or wierd, but just out of curiousity, I was looking up some items. A human wallet goes for $14,000. Don't think I'll be dealing in that market anytime soon. lol
  5. Thank you, this was a lot of fun.
  6. Hello everyone, I am somewhat new to this and a hobbyist at best. I started doing leather work for a Christmas present idea and it increasingly became more addictive. I finally got to the point where I can produce items that are presentable. I now offer up items for auction fundraisers, teams/groups and even sold a few pieces. I'm still learning and continue to improve technique and craftsmanship. This is my latest creation. We'll see what comes out of the studio next. ~James
  7. Thanks, that helps a lot. I'll be sure to try this out.
  8. Howdy folks, I just had a quick question, hopefully I can get some help from some more experienced folks. I am in the process of making book covers: journals, scout handbooks, bibles, etc.... However I seem to be cutting my material way too short and it creates a really tight fit or almost ruins the book. I'm curious, is there a standard/guideline dimension beyond that of the book I should go to? I just don't want my covers to be too big for the book to make it look out of proportion. I'm using 3-4 oz leather. Should I make it 1/2" longer/wider?.... 1/4"? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. ~Blue Skies
  9. I bought quite a few stamps from them and everything seems pretty good. Then again, I'm just a hobbyist and not a professional. They are difficult to get through, but have a quick turnaround. However, recently, I have been trying to get in touch with them to order more supplies but I haven't been able to get in touch with them yet. She usually responds pretty quickly. Are they going out of business? Please let me know if someone finds out. Thanks Blue Skies,
