KayeMagic Report post Posted September 15, 2015 I am new to leather working but I know that for some projects you need to use cement to hold the pieces together for sewing or lacing. What I was wondering is if I could use a contact cement from a hardware store or if it would be better to buy the leather cement. mlapaglia Report post Posted September 15, 2015 Weldwood Contact Cement, Red label. One of the best you can use and its at your local hardware store. Thin coat on each side; Let dry till tacky then put together. I put pieces of wax paper between the two pieces until I get it lined up just right. I bought the gel by accident last time, and I have to say its less mess and has worked just as well. It doesn't string out like hot cheese on pizza like the original recipe.
