  1. Thanks for the responses. In response, I'm interested in making a variation of the USPS postal bag from the late 50s, early 60s. Dimensions are around 18in wide by 15in high, 6-8in deep. Believe the originals were sewn by machine, but want to hand sew instead. The original used copper rivets as well, which I think would be interesting. My research seems to suggest the original was 5oz, or thereabouts. Interested in the beautiful color, and spectacular aging of veg tan leather, but am wondering if the high quality tooling leather is really necessary for an untooled bag. Thanks again.
  2. In following a lot of what's written on the forum, I've found a lot of recommendations for Hermann Oaks, W&C, and Royal Meadows leather. Problem is, they're usually mentioned in relation to tooling. I'm interested in making a hand sewn bag, without any tooling to start, and was wondering if the same leather is needed, or if another alternative is recommended, given that I won't be tooling. Looking for natural, veg tan. 5-6 oz.
