  1. I may have to take you up on that. It would be very interesting to see a shop. I'm afraid that with the limited room I have in my tent, I don't qualify as a shop. More like a shack or hovel. It will be a while though, I'm still in Afghanistan for a couple more months, then when I get back to Georgia, I have some "catching up" to do with the wife. I really appreciate the offer, and will definitely hit you up if I'm ever over that way. Thanks, Floyd Floyd, First, thanks for your service, I retired at Fort Stewart in 1990, still go back there every year or so. Take care of yourself in Afghanistan and if you are an NCO or Officer, make sure you take care of your soldiers. Second, keep at the leatherwork, it will improve. If you get a chance to come over Tifton way, send me a PM and maybe we could get together, tell war stories and look around the shop a little. Chief
  2. I'm in the Savannah / Hinesville / Ft. Stewart area. (usually) Right now I am in Afghanistan. I am a total noob, just getting started. I haven't posted pics of anything because it all looks like total crap in comparison to what I see on this website.
  3. I am new to leatherworking, so some terms and procedures I am still becoming familiar with. When you say "pull up the toe area of the sole, and press the foot bed on", I am confused. Wouldn't the sole and footbed just flatten out once it's released? Is the bed cut smaller than the sole to maintain the "pulled-upness"? If so, what keeps the stiffer sole from pulling the stitches out of the bed when worn? What keeps the leather sole from becoming slick and slippery when worn for a while? Forgive me for asking what probably is a stupid bunch of questions, there's just so much that I don't know.
  4. I am a soldier, currently deployed to Afghanistan.
  5. Thanks for all the help. I'm so new at this....so if I got this right, 1. tool 2. dye 3. buff 4. seal 5. oil I hope I have this in the right order, and acrylic dyes are recommended? One day I will be able to generate products like I see on this forum. You guys (and gals) do awesome work.
  6. I'm new here, so my $.02 aint worth even that much....but looks good to me. How did you get the names in red while leaving the rest black? I'd love to make one of these for my dog. He's not quite as big as a Cane Corso, but he's got a 19" neck.
  7. Let me start off by saying that I am relatively new to leather-working, and this site has truly been an inspiration. That being said, I'm probably posting my question in the wrong area, or it has been answered earlier....but here goes. Most of the stuff I make is just oiled, no dye. I recently made a knife sheath for a friend of mine and dyed it with Eco Flo dark chocolate brown. After setting for a couple of days, the dye would rub off with just a tiny bit of moisture. Since I'm deployed to Afghanistan, and it's summertime, and sweating is definitely an issue.....What can I use to "set" the dye and keep it from rubbing off? Thanks, Floyd

    HideCrafters

I ordered some leather from Hideco, Hidecrafter, or whatever they are calling themselves now. I ordered on Aug 10. That same day I ordered some stuff from Tandy. I received my Tandy order quickly, as always. After 4 emails to the contact info on the "order confirmation email" and 1 email to the contact listed at paypal, I had gotten no response. I contacted paypal directly. Approximately 30 minutes after I contacted paypal, I received two emails (duplicates) from Hideco/Hidecrafter stating my order was cancelled. I'm still waiting on them to refund my $. Anybody else have a similar issue?
