Tandy Goes Steampunk

Recommended Posts

I happened to catch this in their recent buyer's guide flyer, nice to see them trying to get ahead of the game. Tandy's the first supplier I have seen that is doing more than just one gear concho and calling it Steampunk...a new belt buckle (upper left) along with 7 new concho styles, I can see these will be a good seller in the right market areas - i.e. where maker's faires and cons are held.

This is a good step. Possibly, maybe, hopefully they will actually come out with some modern patterns too. At some point they will have to acknowledge that it is not 1956 anymore.

I could see where some of those things would be fun. I don't know if there is any kind of market here -- but I think there would be more interest in the Denver area though.

They're also closing out some stuff too. The 3" re-enactment buckles for instance. Where am I going to get my big heavy duty (but not going to break the budget) brass buckles now? Guess I'll have to order them off the net now rather than buying locally.

It seems Tandy may be paying attention to us here on LW.net, I'm surprised at all the new stuff.

You can download the new 2012 catalog on the leathercraft library. I like the new snap caps in the Oct flyer.

They've also had a steampunk craftaid out for quite a while now. It would definitely be a niche market for finished goods. Steampunk is more of a maker culture so stylized conchos and hardware is a fairly safe bet.

Maybe we should yell louder!

Oo, snap caps. How'd I miss those? Now those guys will be nice for wristbands and snap wallets. Pardon me while I drool on the keyboard.

I might even use one on my Klingon uniform. Not exactly screen accurate but the right proportions for the back flap of the "Col. West " uniform on Star Trek 6
