Here are some cinch guards I just finished. I had a old one I copied. I had to make these about 1/2" bigger all the way around to fit a bigger buckle. Any comments good or bad welcomed.

Thanks, Mike

I really like the design except for the sheepskin. I think latigo would have been a better choice as a backing. The sheepskin will get pretty matted and nasty with all of that sweat. Just my opinion though, otherwise they look great.

Thanks but I can't take credit for the design as I copied a old one I have.

I didn't think about using latigo as the old one I had had sheepskin on it. That's something to keep in mind if I make another pair. Does anyone else have experience with one or the other.

I agree with Frank. A slick surface towards the horse creates less friction than the wool, which will collect a lot of dirt and sweat.

never had a need for them myself but the ones that we made back in the 70's were all sheep lined.

All the ones I ever see in my local tack shops are sheepskin... Never thought anything of it, but that is a good point about them not lasting very long. Maybe use harness felt...?
