I have 2 tools that I don't recognize

Recommended Posts

:whatdoyouthink:Tool1a.JPGTool1a.JPG I recently purchased a small lot of leather tools and I have 2 that I don't recognize. I'm told that they are for saddle repair. I have done quite a bit of saddle repair in the past but have not seen these tools used. I would like to know what they are and what they are used for. I searched the net but didn't have much success. The newer one is made by Standard B. L. Marder in Germany. The older tool is marked Elliot-Heaton-Penn. Corp. Boston, Mass.

They look like hole punches. I can't tell from the pictures. Could you take a picture of the "punching" part of it on it's end?

Papabear, The ones i have are refered to as APEX SEAM STAPLER.

APEX BUCKLE HAND TOOL. USES ARE FOR STAPELING SEAMS SO THEY WILL

NOT RIP OUT. ALSO THEY ARE USED FOR FASTING SMALL BUCKLES

ON SHOES. THE #1 THING THEY WERE USED IN THE SHOE INDUSTRY

FOR WAS ATTACHING BOWS AND MAKING TASSELS FOR LOAFER SHOES.

I HOPE YOU DID GET SOME STAPLES FOR TOOL. IT TOOK ME 3 YEARS TO FIND

THEM. APEX QUIT MAKING THEM.

Hey PapaBear

Those are Bow Staplers commonley used in the shoe industry to attach little bows and other do-dads to ladies shoes.

I have a set that I use for stapling belt and misc loops and I have seen them used on harness to finish a loop that has been sewn in on only one side of a strap.

You should be able to find the staples at any wholesale shoe repair supply. I think I bought mine from Pilgrim some years back( A couple of boxes last forever) I believe the brand name is "APEX"

Its actually a pretty handy little tool for hard to reach places where you need a staple or brad.

Thanks guys, that should help. I don't know if I'll keep them or not. I got what I really wanted out of the group I bought already. They came with 3 other tools in a lot. No staples. I'll think about it, maybe I'll resell them on eBay. Thanks again and Merry Christmas to all!!
