spurdude101 Report post Posted November 3, 2012 I got a GB2972 Typical patcher that drives me nuts. seems it'll sew well for about a dozen or so stitches then Bam! the needle breaks. I think the foot must be moving the work before the needle clears and the next downstroke of the needle hits the needle plate instead of going in the hole. but I'm not sure...any other ideas on how to fix this? Sylvia Report post Posted November 4, 2012 (edited) Have you tried the typical sewing machine issues troubleshooting techniques yet? Are you sure you have it threaded correctly with the presser foot UP? Is the needle fully inserted and oriented correctly for the machine? Is the bobbin unspooling in the correct direction? Do you have thread and needle sizes matched? You might thy taking the thread and bobbin out and sew a piece of scrap leather without threads. That can tell you if it is a tension problem or not. If so then get your money back as I have my doubts the seller has ever tested it. This situation is "Typical" of most GB2972 patchers I have seen in the last two years. It could be something as simple as the needle being adjusted too close to the shuttle but more likely it is a combination of poor tolerances. Open up the back inspection plate and stick your finger in to see if there are metal shavings in the casing. Talk to one of the dealers here about a good second hand machine.
