Douglas Tools Stitching Pony ?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone here purchased one of the table mounted stitching pony/clamps that are currently being advertised at the top of this forum? I keep following the link and can not find the tool. I had not considered replacing my Al Stohlman style stitching pony until this weekend... but why should I, it's nice and I'm proud of the fact that I put it together, etc. But after seeing the Douglas Tool one this past weekend (at the Wichita Falls show) and continually being drawn back to them like a magnet - I'm wanting one. Are there any other's who make such a nice table mounted third hand?

Doug,

I have a very old decrepit stitching horse that I use when absolutely necessary and so I haven't used Bob's stitching pony, but I think it is a good product and have considered purchasing one for my bench. It's well made! The only thing stopping me is the really nice stitching horse that Vandy (Bob's Daughter) is selling at Sheridan Leather Outfitters!!!

You know I'm just assuming the one I was looking at was the Douglas piece but it might have been Vandy's ... or is her's strictly a pony design as opposed to table mount? Sheridan's website looks great in my opinion though I think it must still be a work in progress. I first thought it was missing the usual catagories that you'd expect until I clicked on "our leather philosophy", oh there's the tools section but then it's empty when I click on it. It's not a problem I know websites can take some time. I just found the number to call for a catalog and will do that tomorrow. I gotta mention, they are a really friendly group of people from what I saw this weekend.

Is Sheridan's website a work in progress (without much on it) or am I just too lame to figure it out? I didn't notice any catalogs either, how'd you find out about Sheridan's stitching pony?

Doug...you were right....the stitching pony is Bob's of Bob Douglas Tools and it's been available for a few years that I am aware of. Vandy offers a full blown sit on it stitching horse and a really nice one. I've been afraid to ask her what they run, LOL!

Vandy (Bob's daughter) and her husband Luke, own Sheridan Leather Outfitters. They are two separate businesses, however this last year Bob has moved his tool business from his shop into Luke and Vandy's store and they have also decided to combine everything at the shows.

Bob has a catalog but not a website.... Sheridan Leather has a website SHERIDAN LEATHER OUTFITTERS & DOUGLAS TOOLS (for those of you that haven't been seen it) but not a catalog, as I remember, anyway.

They are all really great people!!!!
