Wrapped Buckle For Guitar Strap

Recommended Posts

I'm getting to make myself a new guitar strap. I'd like to use one of these 1-1/2" clipped corner buckles but I'm worried about it scratching the guitar, so I was think of wrapping it in leather cord. Is there a way to braid it or should I just wrap and glue it? Would one of these 1-1/2" cowhide strips I'm planning on using still fit through it afterwards?

Bruce Grant "Encyclopedia of Rawhide and Leather Braiding" plates 126-129 demonstrates several ways to wrap a buckle with lace. Have a look.

Thanks, but is there somewhere I can find that information without buying the book? I don't plan on doing a whole lot of leatherwork after I finish the strap.

You might try a simple double loop lace, instead of going through holes in two pieces of leather you just wrap the buckle.

Here's an easy to follow how to:

You can put the lace cross pattern on top or on the outside edge, wherever looks the best.

Thanks a lot.

I also found these instructions specifically for buckles on that same website:
