  • How did you find leatherworker.net?

  1. James- I like the general design of the belt. I feel the letters really need a cut and some light beveling to make them stand out. THis might help the 3D effect your are after. The son in Davidson looks better than the David. The Ds in Davidson do not match. I can not tell if the tooled pattern by the holes is repeated at the buckle area. I think this would complete the appearance of the whole belt. I am a beginner and can only offer my opinion. THe more experience might offer you better input. Fathers Son
  2. Thank you for the responses and the ideas. Hidepounder- Could you please offer me an idea on how I could print the last two pieces you posted. Thanks Fathers Son
  3. My son is looking for some good practice patterns to improve his swivel knife skills. By the way it won't hurt dad to practice more too. If anyone has some good patterns if you could please post them or let me know a place to download them from. Thanks and Happy Thankgiving Fathers Son
  4. dscott- Looks nice. You might consider on future ones to continue the stiching onto the strap. Fathers Son
  5. The following is my tool holder and case. It allows me to keep them together and from hitting. This was the first one I made so I figured out the handle which does not match. Learned about dyeing with the D-rings rivited in place. Still have alot to learn about working with leather. Another item I learned since I made this is to bevel the pattern and then do the tooling. I had not been doing the bevel first. Now I need to learn to undercut bevel the leaves. Fathers Son
  6. My son is working on this belt. He found the pattern in the How to Carve Leather Book. It is cut and stamped and partially dyed. Fathers Son
  7. The following belt has also been shown in Leerworkers postings. The belt was done following the directions in the Tandy Eco-Flo booklet. Fathers Son
  8. This is an open letter to all the contributers of this website and Johanna. I can not say THANK YOU enough for the wealth of information that you all make available and share with people like me. Often when looking at a person's project someone will ask how it was done and multiple people reply with how and not just a short outline. But, generally fairly detailed information, sometimes with drawings or samples. I enjoy looking at the beautiful work that you post and share with us. At some point I will post some of my pieces which have a long way to go. As a self taught person I have learned a lot from the website and reading some of the Al & Ann Stohlman books lately. Thanks to all of you, Fathers Son PS Consider supporting the website if you do not already.
  9. Steve- Beautiful work something to be proud of. Thanks Fathers Son
  10. MadMax22- Thank you for asking it means alot to have someone with your experience and ability to ask. When I read the new Tandy Book Coloring with Eco-Flo it and a small piece about mixing chopped leather and shavings with Leather weld to make a round knife handle. So I figured if it would work for a knife why not a pen. What I did was stain some scraps. Then I beveled the tops and bottoms, then grooved them to get more material. After I had a nice handful I cut it up with a scissors to keep the pieces short. Then mixed it with the leather weld and put on the Brass sleeve used to make a pen. Let it dry and turned them. My first attempt I had issues with it coming off the brass. To fix this I used CA glue (Super Glue) to re-attach. I found that the short strains are better than chucks, they pop out and leave a hole. The red plastic and the Tambootie wood are because it still chucks out. Crystal & dscott- Thanks for the kind words. Fathers Son
  11. Bearman- I like the look of the piece. I am imressed by the depth of the leaves, they really pop out. Great piece. Fathers Son
  12. This is my first posting of any of my work. I am every green at tooling, but this was a fun little project. I hope everyone enjoys seeing this as I have not seen anything similiar on the site yet. Please enjoy. Fathers Son
  13. MadMax22 Thank you for the simple yet informative lesson. Fathers Son
  14. Rickeyfro- The seat looks nice. Smart use of the bridle leather. Fathers Son
  15. The knot looks very similiar to what is used to "whip" a rope to stop it from unraveling. THe only difference is that it looks like a double strand. Fathers Son
