Is This What It Claims To Be? (Pfaff Flat Bed Leather Sewing Machine On Ebay)

Recommended Posts

Hi there everyone,

I'm just getting ready to hopefully buy my first sewing machine for leather, but before i make the choice, i just want to know whether this is actually a Pfaff Flat Bed machine, and if it is what sort of leather thicknesses you think it would probably be able to handle?

Ideally i'm looking for a machine that could handle belt and harness weight leathers.

Since i'm only planning on using it fairly occasionally and my budget is somewhat limited it doesnt really make sense for me to buy something brand new, so i'm kind of hoping that the price on this isn't too good to be true...though it seems it could very well be.

Anytime they write "cheap as chips" I would run. What a sales pitch?(LOL) Looking at the panel is has it might have a 220 v motor & this model #463 is a light duty machine that if your real lucky might sew alittle more than 1/4" leather with a small #69 thread.

This is a high speed needle position motor with a roller foot. High speed is around 3500 to 5000 stitches per minute. Bob is right it will not sew more than .25 inches of material. You don't want this machine.

The machine you are looking for will sew around 5/8" of material or more. Speed should be around 600 to 800 spm. It will be a walking foot machine. This one is not a walking foot.

You will need to find more money for your sewing machine requirements. Good luck.

In a word -Damn, i thought it sounded too good to be true.

I suppose i'll just keep saving up until i can afford something that'll actually do the job.

Thanks so much for the wise words and advice.

The description says "post bed" so the seller may not have any idea of what they are selling.
