Mule Collars, Huh!

Recommended Posts

Thought I would show the lower end of the tack world. I live in South West Georgia and one of my customers is the Georgia Museum of Natural History. They operate a 1860-1900 South Georgia Farm, it is know as Agriama located in Tifton, GA. They asked me to restore and repair some harnesses and collars for the mules they use to plow with. Kind of a neat look back in history, also they don't take much care with the equipment so I stay pretty busy. These are two items I have in right now, I will post the after shots when they're done. This also shows just how durable leather is, there are decades of use on these.

Sounds like you have job security anyway. I Really like the bridle. Nice design. I like the way they're built ! Not many Mules around SD. I'll be watching for the after pictures.------------Bill

Had another thought that a lot of folks probably never seen a mule, here are two of the ones they have at the farm. They just got a new one and I haven't seen her, but they tell me she's twice the size of these. I think they're gonna have me make a complete rigging for her. I'll get a picture of her soon with one of the others as a reference if possible.

Sorry,

Finished em' and didn't get any pictures. They were in a hurry and I delivered them before thinking about pictures. Most of it was just repair work. Added a chin strap to the one piece and a new buckle to the collar.

The one looks a lot like one I made a saddle for this past summer.
