Camera bag suggestions please

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I did a couple searches and didnt come up with anything.

So anyone out there do a camera bag. I am thinking of one of the bigger ones with seperate compartments for a couple of lenses and all the other necessary goodies. Kind of looking for some construction ideas. I kind of have a few layouts and ideas allready but you can never have to many options.

Thanks

Perhaps investigate some photo forums and and browse their boards too see what they hav come up. They are most likely postigg lot's of pics of their projects;-)

The Swedish board has had lot's about this but I suppose you don't read Swedish very fluid.

Don't know if http://www.photo.net or http://www.dpreview.com

Dpreview is probably more about tecnichal aspects and pixel peepers.

And remember :google0dw: Here's a little something I gogled up with serchterm: http://www.google.se/search?hl=sv&sa=X...diy&spell=1

and top link: http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=213&pgno=0

Good luck!

Well i am new to this forum and havent actually made anything out of leather yet :rolleyes2: , but i would make the bag out of leather but for the inserts i would definately recommend getting some domke inserts. a lot of people who make their own bag, buy a satchel and fit an appropriate insert, so possibly you could design and create your own bag out of leather and put one of the inserts in.

thats a link o the inserts.

i made one out of leather several years ago. I had the leather and the time to tinker so i did.

I used sole leather for the T/B for rigidity. The bag ended up too small too. when i was taking alot of pic, i had 2 SLRs around my neck. I used some #10 nylon zipper and made the bag sort of like a sardine can if you know what i mean. The zipper was sit around the perimeter of the bag. It also had rounded couners so the zipper would work. I used some closed cell foam for the inside and used cordura for the lining. It also had a pocket on the front along with some "d" rings on the side for a shoulder strap and a handle on top.

if you make one, make sure you have enough space for other gear.

You can also check out the Stolman Case making books for ideas and construction techniques.

The only problem with the Stohlman books is they are so dated, but at the time he did them the would have been right. I know in mine it has a camera case for the little Instamatic Camera with the External flash bulb. Anybody else remember those things?? I still have mine in the closet with the box it came in, along with all the old 8-Track tapes from the days.

I will admit that the Stohlman books are really good as far as showing how to do different corners and sewing techniques and such.
