  1. Jeebus! Amazing work, I've been inspired and just picked up tools and some veg tanned leather to get started on my own projects. Well done!
  2. In regards to the leather for this, I've found some decently priced 2-3oz veg tanned leather, but it says its calf rather than cow and has a much lighter look to it. Is there a big difference between the two types, if they are both veg tanned and the same thickness? The shop has both, but they only have huge cuts of cow leather that costs 5x as much as the smaller cut of the calf leather.
  3. This is probably the best place, if I'm buying in bulk : http://www.conchos.com/celticconchos.html
  4. Hmm, I interpreted that as 11 designs to choose from, but you get just 1 of them. I'll PM the seller to verify. Thanks for helping out!
  5. Thanks for the tips. I had googled and found conchos, but I was holding out hope that there was something else that was a bit more affordable than everything I've found. I'll need 75 or so of these suckers and most of what I'm seeing are $2+ each.
  6. Hi everyone, Just getting started with leathercrafting, so I'm learning everything as I go. I'm trying to create an outfit similar to the one worn by Sir Ansgar, a character from The Quest (reality show from ABC, it's on Netflix. Check it out!) He has a few different pieces he wears, one of which is like a loose gorget or mantle draped over the shoulders. Looks like something I could put together without too much trouble, but I am at a loss as to what the small, celtic-like disks sewn onto the leather are called or where to buy them. I found the term conchos somewhere, but from what I've found those seem to be more of a decorative piece, not something you'd buy in bulk to decorate like this. If anyone knows what these are actually called so I can search where to buy them, I'd greatly appreciate it! Also, if you had to guess on the thickness of that leather, what would you say? Thanks a ton!
  7. Thanks for the feedback. I have a great work space away from the wife and kids so I'm thinking of setting up shop and trying a few things. I just can't seem to find where/what kind of leather I should buy to get started.
  8. Oh and the 'Archery Accessories' link doesn't seem to be working, just FYI.
  9. Awesome, I'm looking at either the Mirkwood or the traditional recurve. Maybe even the quiver, all looks great!
  10. Thanks for the link, I think I'll be placing an order soon. Looks fantastic and I've been shopping around for just the right seller (I try to avoid buying from the Cabela's of the world when there are folks out there making them by hand!)
  11. Wow, these look incredible! I'm just coming into this hobby/craft from zero, but this inspires me more. I'm keen to make a torso piece and/or some pauldrons, but I'm having a tough time finding where to start. This site has a lot of good info, but will take time to sift through. I'm curious, as you are also somewhat newer to leathercrafting, could you advise on maybe where you were able to find appropriate sheets of leather and how much the raw materials were? I'm trying to gauge a starting dollar amount required to get into this, and see if it's feasible. Thanks again for sharing!
