  1. Thanks again! BTW - Those holsters of yours look very nice. I hope mine turns out half as good!
  2. Thanks for the tips. I am not going to wet form the holster (this time), and I did buy some Tandy Leather Glue to stick it together. I think I will glue it, then drill the holes, and then sew. The only main concern regarding burnishing, is part of the holster folds over and once it is sewn, I won't be able to burnish that one part. Should I do that first? -Todd
  3. Ok, I am making an avenger style pattern for my Ruger Alaskan. Another member was kind enough to send me the pattern. I have cut out the pattern, cut the belt holes, punched the stitch holes for the main belt strap, and dyed both the outside and inside. I dyed the inside just so it would not be such a contract to the outside. These are my questions: 1. Do I need t apply neetsfoot oil to the project now? 2. Do I dye and burnish the edges now, or do I do that after I sew it? 3. I don't have anything to hold the holster so I can sew it, so do I use contact cement to get it to basically stay together and then do my hand sewing? Sorry for all the questions, as this is my very first leather project. I am having so much fun, and I am glad I decided to do this as a hobby. -Todd
  4. Thanks for the tips rickmoo! Actually, another leatherworker on the forum was gracious enough to send me a pattern that he had already made for someone else's Ruger Alasakan. It is an Avenger style (I have never seen one until now, and I think I am going to like it). I haven't had a chance to start working on it yet, as I have been recovering from Pneumonia. Just now getting my strength back.
  5. Thanks for the welcome. Rand into computer issues right after I joined. Now I can spend some time here learning.

  6. I am new to leatherworking. I just purchased the professional kit from Tandy because I want to make a holster for my Ruger Alaskan. I am left handed and trying to find a holster has been near impossible, so I decided I would make one. I always wanted to do leather work, and this was as good an excuse as any to get started. Now on to the question, I have been told that a pancake design would be the best carry option for this type of handgun. That being said, does anyone know where I can get a pancake holster pattern and how difficult would it be to take the pattern and make it left-handed? Would it be just turning the pattern inside out? I have been searching the internet and not coming up with any patterns at all. If anyone has any ideas, I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks! Todd
  7. Looks great! Good job on the design work.
