Stool Seat

Recommended Posts

I make wood furniture for a living and I have requests for leather details. On some stools, the client wants leather stretched across a wooden frame like this: http://www.bddw.com/furniture/seating/stool_squarebar.html . How do I fasten this (I assume some sort of glue)? What other concerns should I have over the longterm? I may pass this along to somebody more qualified, but I want to understand the process.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I would suggest contact cement and upholstery tacks. As to long term care, I'd suggest Aussie wax.

? Is there anything under the leather? If you just glue it around the perimeter, it will pull loose in no time. It will also stretch out of shape if the glue does hold! I would either cover a piece of plywood and then screw it from the bottom or attach the leather to canvas and attach with nice tacks from the top. Done LOTS of woven leather chairs, put canvas under the seats and they have held up great.
