I have a whip here that I got very cheaply at a flea market. The constructions doesn't quite match anything I've seen before, but then again I know very little about whips.
The fall and the popper need to be replaced. The fall was quite old and dry, and would rip apart very easily. I got some replacements from David Morgan (http://www.davidmorgan.com/product_info.php?products_id=193), as well as some of the Pecards dressing for the rest of the whip.
Here's what the business end of the whip was like with the original falls on there:

The fall was two layers of leather with a coarse stitch going down the middle. There was a twine or some sort of thin skin wrapped as you can see at the base to hold the falls on.

Once I removed that, there's not much inside. There's a few cords running down the center of it, and the old fall was tied to the end of the cords with some twine.

So, could any whip experts offer some advice on what a good way to repair this would be? Should I just run the cords through the eye of the replacement fall I have, tie that down, then re-wrap the end around it, so it was just like before? If so, a recommendation for the wrapping material would be great, since the old stuff is trashed. Maybe the widest sinew I can find?
Should I try to put together some sort of braided extension piece that will have the proper fall knot (not sure of the correct nomenclature) that the fall just cinches over, as I've seen in all the videos? Then tie & wrap that piece in place, so future fall replacements should be like in all the videos and instructions I've seen?
