Musta took all the marks off that did not look like a stagecoach or horses.

Are you refering to the tool marks in the beveled areas?

Overall for a beginner your work looks good (hence the above comments). I think you are referring to the tooled/bevel marks around the perimeter of the carving. The main answer is "the angle and how hard you hit your tools". A little bit of tipping makes a lot of difference. Also, some tools have a slightly different shape to the face and that slight difference matters a lot.

Over tool them. Put a back ground in that should sort it.

Hi, yes talking about marks in beveled areas, only being doing this for about 10weeks, picture is from one of Al stohlman books, will be trying to make new panniers and seat for my motorcycle which my trade will help loads, I am a upholsterer, thankyou all for your comments,
