Mexican Box Braiding Question

Recommended Posts

I think I am calling it the right thing: 4 forward 3 back gives a beautiful chevron effect covering the entire edge, like what I have in the picture. I have this down on top hats but I am wanting to do a bowie knife sheath in this lacing and I am wondering how a body goes about the corners and changes in direction. Following the blade from the bottom there will be a very sharp angle at the tip and then a much less pronounced angle to address. It was on this forum that I found the simplistic yet so very useful explanation of 4 forward 3 back I hope to find a similarly intelligible one for this. Thanks in advance

No answer? So is it that this is a question that has been asked a million times so nobody cares to answer it again or what?

Going around tight curves/corners involves running your lace through *some* of the holes more than the usual amount of times. Sorry, don't have a picture or directions for the details on line but I know I've seen them here. Yer gonna have a real bugger of a time even trying to cover the point of it - if it's even possible.

Cheers

McJeep thanks. I'm wondering if I might not have to just go double cordovan on it. BTW am I calling this the right name. I was looking and it seems the mexican braid I'm seeing weaves more than what I am doing. All I am doing is 1 top 4 bottom 2 top 5 bottom 2top 6 bottom

Hi Zonker... I saw your question yesterday but I'm don't do this kind of thing yet. (I Viking knit)

You might want to hit the people up in the braiding section of the forum... way way down toward the bottom.

Try to keep in mind most all of us are working leather workers that don't spend hours on the forum just waiting for a question to answer. There are some I don't see post for weeks. I just happen to have my computer set up near my working area... and I am a professional mulit-tasker. lol

Seriously though.... I would ask the whip makers in the forum. ;) Good Luck... I hope you find the answers you seek

Yeah, it's not the mexican basket weave if that's what you're meaning - simpler than basket weave - nice tho :)
