I picked up some tandy leather cement from my local hobby lobby today, I just glued a handkerchief to some suede. As I was doing that it occurred to me that the glue smelled just like Elmers wood glue. should I skip the hobby store next time and just grab the Elmers? on a separate, related topic. I think I want ( i know im sick) to hand stitch my projects, and I was thinking of mounting a nice solid needle in a drill press. I dont need the spinning, but the press and chuck seem perfect for quick controlled holes. am I crazy? terrymac Report post Posted September 19, 2011 I use my drill press all the time to do just what you discussing. I bought a Tandy awl handle and pulled the chuck out of the handle and insert the 1/4" round shaft in the drill press. It works great. The only trick I have learned is to turn on the drill press to make sure the chuck is positioned correctly. If it isn't, you will see a woobly spinning. Use a prickling wheel, mark your hole layout and go to punching holes. You want your awl blade angled, just watch it to make sure it stays in the same alignment as it can move. Can't answer your question concerning the wood glue, but a lot of members on this forum use Wood Weld and seem happy. I use Tandy contact cement with no problems. Hope this helps. I did some tests on leather weld and Elmer's white wood glue. They look smell and taste the same. They have the same glueing charictaristics and leather weld will bond to Elmer's.
