Oh Good Grief!

Recommended Posts

Ok, first let me say I am not fond of Martha. I think she is pretentious and arrogant... enough said. I just found Tandy promoting a project of hers.... ugg

I think it's funny that one commenter tried the card case and it didn't fit any cards. ha!

I saw this on the Tandy site last week. Couldn't find a link to the actual projects at the time though.

The pattern for the cards looks to be the correct size. The guy probably printed it out with a margine which would definitely skew the size smaller.

I made a sleeve like that (withouth the lacing) for my daughters Kindle Fire. I'll definitely save the simple patterns for future reference though. :)

I saved them too. But I think i would do some prototyping before I cut leather.

Just at a quick glance, the card case does look a little tight. If you look at the bottom of the page, they are suggesting 4-5oz leather. That might not work even if the pattern is printed correctly if there isn't enough extra room on the sides for the pockets to give a little. I applaud the effort to promote leather, but there are some details missing that would make a beginner screw up.

Make sure to print actual size. Don't let your software scale to fit the page/printer. Most printers take up to .25" off the margins, so letting your s/w shrink to fit scales it smaller.

And I totally agree, cut the prototype to fit on paper or other cheap material before cutting any leather.

LOL. I thought so too.

Actually I did a double take when I saw this stuff on the Tandy site last week. My first thought was how juvenile the finished products looked, but then thought maybe I was being unkind.

Oh? Well, I had no use for the woman even before we found out what a crook she was. LOL

:) I do believe it would be better with saddle stitching or real leather lace.

I do believe that look was kind of the point. They are billed as "camp" projects. But I agree. It wouldn't take a lot to improve them.
