What is this tool?

Recommended Posts

Just picked this up at my local antiques (junk!) market and don't really know what it is for - any thoughts?

here you go Luke - It could be a seam ripper but I've never seen one like this before. The edge is razor sharp but the point is quite blunt- very strange!

Damn! I know (knew) what this is - but I've forgotten! I came across it when I was looking for my mystery tool (http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=5977).

I have an idea that it's a welt trimmer, for paring down the edges of shoe soles until they are level with the shoe welt. If I can find the link again, I'll let you know!

Found it! It's a welt knife . . . see http://ronstools.com/orderform.htm and eBay item no 110312634458.

Thank goodness . . . I thought my memory had finally expired!

That must be one of the fastest 'WTF is this' resolutions in the history of leatherworker.net - Thanks Terry!
