with over 200 ebay transactions under my belt, i am happy with most outcomes and have only had one or two go south!

i recently ordered two nikon batteries for a friend for his $3000 nikon SLR. The batteries arrived but were not Genuine Nikon as advertised but some cheap chinese ones. I emailed the seller (powerseller with 99% good feedback) and explained the situation. he is happy to replace the batteries as he says they were sent by mistake. the thing is i have to send the cheapos back at my expense and he will then send the replacements. They have to be sent to hongkong which will only cost me about $10. i dont think i should have to pay for his mistake but if i dont send them back i will be out $100 and stuck with two batteries that dont even charge.

If i had to buy these batteries here they cost $89 each.

what would you do?

Looks like your stuck between a rock and a hard place. Maybe if you replied with your concerns and sent them a photo of the cheapo's saying that it was their mistake and that you don't wish to pay to send them their rubbish back. It would also be worthwhile saying that you will talk to ebay's dispute center if this isn't sorted out to your satisfaction.

I'd also be leary about sending them back before recieving the new ones. You could be waiting a LONG time for the new ones, as I'm thinking that they may not be selling real Nikon batteries, and your the first to say something about it.

Also, as OutBack has said, you can file a dispute with both E-Bay and PayPAl (if you used PayPal) to cnacel the transfer of your funds until this is settled.

My 2 cents, I had a dispute awhile back with some misrepresented earrings, I won the Paypal dispute, we both agreed to leave decent feedback, I did so, she slammed me. So I resorted to Squaretrade. They also found in my favor and did absolutly nothing about it! I paid them 40 bucks to tell me I was right! Whatever you end up doing, avoid Squaretrade at all costs! They are just a scam!

They don't charge!!

Then they appear to be faulty and should firsthanded be replaced with what you ordered from the beginning.

I'd probably end up sending them back but after reasoning with my friend in the matter.

About cheapos, I use Soligor batteries for my Canon slr and they work fine. Quite popular here in expensive Sweden.

i've had the same problem a couple times. what i wound up doing was filing a claim through paypal to get the cost and the shipping both back. hope you paid with paypal it takes a couple weeks but works great. hope that helps

Roo,

I'd schedule a direct flight to Hong Kong (batteries in hand) and shove em up his butt! Sounds like a scam to me.

(Now if feel better.)

Hi Roo,

You really need to stay away from the Hong Kong sellers. Some are reputable, but many are not, and they know they have you at arms length. Also, some products (I'm thinking some cameras) cannot be imported to the US and if they (Customs) should inspect, they will seize. Don't know if OZ has those kinds of restrictions. I almost always use PayPal or VISA for eBay stuff, PayPal does stand behind the transaction if they say they will (they may have a limit), and you can reverse a VISA charge with a phone call. Debit or check cards can be harder to reverse, sometimes impossible, and NEVER let them put an instant check through. You should have ACH transfers blocked on any account you use for commerce.

I tend to avoid eBay, especially for camera equipment, so I can't give any advise about how to deal with that. However, in regard to the batteries themselves, personally, I would buy the genuine, if more expensive, batteries. $89 may seem like a lot, but it's way less than replacing a $3000 camera when the cheap battery explodes, or leaks acid all in it. That isn't to say that they will, but I have heard of it happening.

I would give a power seller with a high feed-back rating the benefit of the doubt and take their word for it that it was an honest mistake. besides, they have offered to make good on the deal, so the ball is in your court.

You'll get over this, you're young yet....
