V-Belt Drives

Recommended Posts

First, greetings to all. I have a Singer 153 W... and was wondering if a standard "A" belt is OK to use from the motor to the drive pulley on the machine, or are there special belts for this purpose? The "A" belt appears to fit the groove OK, but the belt stands proud of the pulley by approximately 1/8 inch. I seem to recall a thread where a 7/16 inch wide belt was mentioned but was unable to locate that thread again and cannot find that size belt listed anywhere. Any input will be appreciated. Thank you.

Gerry

The belt will work fine, it'll just run a bit faster.

Thanks Eric. So I assume from your answer that there are thinner belts available. Would you know a source?

Many auto parts stores carry the smaller belts. In a pinch I'll get one from NAPA. I'm sure our sponsors selling machines and parts have them as well.

I use only type 3L (3/8") v-belts on my sewing machines. All industrial sewing machine dealers stock and sell these belts.
