Round vs Leather (Chisel) Point Needles for Leather

Recommended Posts

Is there any problem using "round" needles to sew leather on my Tippmann Boss? Most of my projects are just 2-3 layers of 5-6 oz leather using 207-277 thread. I just happened to be given 100 round needles and hoped to use them. I have recently sewn a briefcase (up to 1/2 inch) with the round needle and the sewing seems pretty nice, but I don't have lots of experience to compare with. Chisel point may be a little "cleaner" sewing with more of a "cut" rather than a "poked-through" look on the underside. Thanks for your comments in advance.

The stitching will look better when you use the cutting point in leather it makes look like it's pulled down more & depending on the point will make it straighter looking if you use the S-point,they also have a RTW & Ltw that will give the stitching a twist between the stitches. The round points are better for repair work & nylon webbing.
