leatherj Report post Posted January 18, 2014 I've had these brass screws on an untreated, natural, oak tanned belt for about 3 months and when I unscrewed them today for the first time, noticed this green waxy substance on the back Any ideas on this? Geneva Report post Posted January 18, 2014 Nothing unusual brass reacts to leather in this way. It is worse with chrome tanned leather. Northmount Report post Posted January 18, 2014 Any ideas on this? The green is verdigis, a natural reaction. It requires moisture, so if you can keep the article dry, that will prevent its formation. However belts and such absorb moisture while being worn so is more prone to its formation. Coat the brass with a durable clear sealant, such as lacquer.
