Free Stuff Websites

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

While surfing this site I found a this link http://www.aon-celtic.com/ (Sorry I dont remember the persons name who posted it.oops.gif) and there were some really cool free patterns on it. Does anyone else have any websites with cool free stuff on them?

Also, I was wondering if people had any free patterns for things like cases, cell phone holders, coin purses etc. to share? or is that kind of thing a tightly guarded craftsecret? I haven't found much here on "how to" make various items. It looks like Al Stohlman has the market on anything leathercraft and I don't really have the money to buy books right now.

Thanks a bunch, banana.gif

Ellen

Hi Ellen,

There are very few 'free stuff' websites associated with leatherwork. It takes years to learn the craft - and that includes pattern making. Plus, patterns take a long time to develop and many people are understandably reluctant to give their hard work away for free.

Having said that, the people here are very generous. You might like to take a look at:

Just remember that , in many cases - especially where leatherworking is concerned - free stuff is often worth what you paid for it.

Apparently free doesn't always mean free, as someone else using the "freeware" from the site you posted found out. Maybe best to read all the small print first. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=22200&st=0&p=142253&fromsearch=1entry142253

Thanks for your response, Ray. I can see why people wouldn't want to share their designs after reading the forum links you posted here. Especially after spending years perfecting them. I think I was being a bit naive about it all. In my mind I was thinking of very simple "how to" instructions with some pointers for newbies but I realize now that that can be a pretty thankless endeavor if people don't even appreciate the time and effort it takes to teach them the craft.

Anyway I really appreciate what I have learned here pouring over the forums for information. Thanks again.

Ellen

Yikes! thanks Denise. I didn't see that post.

At this point, Ellen, it is probably worth saying that if you ask for a specific piece of information or help with a project or design it will almost certainly be forthcoming! LOL

What are you looking to make?

Ellen,

Like Ray said in the last post... don't be afraid to ask!! The people here are very knowledgable and most if not all of them are willing to help you through your project. You just need to be specific in what you want to do, i.e. purses, cases, wallets, checkbook covers, saddles, tack, etc.

Don't ask me though, as the only real thing I've made is a strop for my swivel knife..... lol. (It's those darned round toit's that are hard to get when you've got a job in RL and interferes with having fun.)

Hey Ellen,

Free pattern's for leather are hard to come by. Go to http://www.sbearstradingpost.com/freepatterns.html, he has a few pattern's free for download. Also, Tandy Leather has a place on their site that offer's some free tooling pattern's, etc. It can be very frustrating indeed. Good luck.
