Replacing Saddle Shearling Lining

Recommended Posts

I am a newbie changing the shearling lining on an older saddle. Someone told me that the knap on the skin should be opposite on the two sides to prevent the saddle from shifting around. Does this make any sense? It does mean that the centre wool (heaviest) won't be used on the centre of one of the sides unless I use two skins. Help!

Dear Gtwister, thank you so much for your prompt reply. My questions are answered and now I can finish the job....I had one side done (to make sure I could reassemble the saddle) and didn't want to continue without a definitive answer. I am enjoying the challenge and would probably attempt this project again . Thanks again.
