Wanted: Saddle Pattern For Reining Saddle Or Pleasure

Recommended Posts

Hi All, I have been trying for some time to get ahold of a saddle pattern that needs very little modification (I realize I will have to make modifications for the tree, etc) so I can get moving with my first saddle. I am not good at making my own patterns, but once I have one, can modify it slightly yo fit my needs. I have had offers for people to send me one, but have never followed through and just can't wait anymore. I am willing to pay a reasonable (what we can agree on) amount for a pattern to get me started.

I have tried the Stolhman books, the style is just too far out of line from what I am trying to make for me to modify and get what I am looking for, plus I have "confidence" issues in my work. I also have the Dusty Johnson patterns, but not too thrilled with those; I have been trying to make a pattern for an 8-button wade for a few years with little success, but also want to make a reining saddle;

Anyone willing to share a basic pattern for a modest or reasonable price, please contact me - I REALLY want to move forward with my saddle, but am good at modifying things - but am not good at picturing and making my own patterns.....and am REALLY stuck. I did look at the leather library and noticed they have a roper pattern on there so I suppose that might be worth a try, but wanted to put this out there first and see if there is anyone willing to help me

thank you!

I, too, have always wanted to make my own saddle. For over 20 years it's been a "plan", but I've never had the time or money to do it. In preparation, many years ago I bought two saddle patterns that can be modified for pleasure and roping saddles. I planned on combining my favorite parts of both into one saddle. Somewhere here in my house are the two packages. If I can find them, I can get them reproduced and you can have copies. Before doing that, of course, I would send you the pictures of the saddles to see if they were anythin you were interested in.

Okay...I found ONE of the patterns. It's the Trail Rider Saddle pattern. It come complete with a booklet with fully illustrated instructions, tooling patterns, and full size patterns for all the saddle pieces. I can't find the other saddle...must be hidden somewhere. It had double skirts which is what I like and I like roping saddle pommels. I've attached a scan of the front cover to show what the saddle looks like.

Hi Deb,

The attachment didn't come through - it sounds like what I am looking for; I have one of Tandy's that has the instructions but came more as a "kit" I think it was the 1905 model; I also just bought the Roper instructions. I would be willing to pay you for the time and cost for copies if you didn't mind doing that for me? I think it sounds like one I could modify. I am excited.....I know the people that have offered to help have meant well, they just haven't had the time to trace patterns and get them to me, but I am just so anxious to get working on my saddle - have had the ground seat in for 2 years and the rest just sitting there....staring at me!

thanks! if you could either PM me the picture just to make sure or try posting it again - that would be great! thanks again!

Since I work for a construction company, I can easily scan and copy to disk or email the full size patterns and instructions sheets. I'll try reposting the photo of the package when I get home. Do you want to exchange emails addy so the discussion and exchange can go private?

You did? Please try again. I wiped my computer and have been reinstalling all my programs for the last week. Actually, had to wipe it twice and start over. Two of the programs I updated turned out to be incompatible. Anyway, I don't recall getting private message. How do you contact someone from here as a PM?

Hi deb look in the top right hand corner by your name when you have logged in there should be a little green biz with a number in it representing the number of messages you have drop down the box and go to messages to read them hope that helps
