Metal Trim For Leather Edges

Recommended Posts

Don't know if such a thing exists - my searches certainly didn't unearth anything.

I'm considering edging two, short ends of my leather wallet. It will be a simple piece of leather folded in half to accomodate bills (also folded in half) and up to 10 credit cards, but because folded bills are wider than credit cards, this results in about 1.5cm of 'unsupported' leather where the credit cards end, and it is these two ends I'd like to edge with little metal trims of some sort, rather than just having ugly ends exposed. I'm thinking something that you just feed over the leather ends and then crimp into place with pliers.

Hope I've explained that clearly enough.

A mexican braid dresses up an edge.

Ohio Travel Bag has crimp on corners that are metal.

You can buy channel and crimp it on but I don't think it will look as good as the corners.

Channel? So that's what the long strips are called? I keep searching but don't know what words to use.

You could buy a piece of metal U channel or go with the conventional bar snap ... http://springfieldleather.com/18937/Snap%2CBar%2CBp%2C10pk/

edge trim is another option ... http://www.trimlok.com/prod/Build-Your-Edge-Trim/Edge-Trims/All-Product-Categories_107/Edge-Trim-Product-Builder_87.aspx

Typical! This looked perfect until I saw the price. I could get a nice black trim, at exactly the size I want, but at $238.50, it's just a little too steep :jawdropper:

I must have done something wrong! We're talking 2mm wide trim here... how can it cost that much? Ah, seems it's only available fin 500 ft rolls. Wonder how much I'll get in a sample.

Thanks, Tree Reaper :)

Well now that I know what I'm looking for...

Yeah, that generally seems to be one of the biggest hurdles.

I always hate that I may know what it is that I need or I'm looking for, but forgetting, or not even knowing, what it's called really makes the whole process that much harder. The moment of clarity when you go "Oh... So that what it's called..." is a pretty god feeling. Especially when you've never had anyone to ever tell you what it may have been called. I inherited the bulk of my tools and never had anyone that knew what most of them were called. I had giant box filled with "What"s this thing do? " Some stuff was clear, other stuff not so much...

They have an 800 number, you can call and ask them if they sell to someone close to you.

They'll have a customer list that you can even order from.
