Please Help With This Machine

Recommended Posts

Hi!

Sorry for this message about asking for your help. For sewing cowhide of total thickness around 3-4 mm, I found my Singer 201k is useless. There might be a chance to pick this post-bed sewing machine Pfaff 193 BL but I couldn't find enough information on the internet. From the limited info. I found, the "B" type is for medium weight leather, have no idea if the cowhide of 3-4mm could be counted as medium weight or heavy weight. Moreover, if on the leaflet it states that the needle size 80-100 shall be used, can I use much larger than that? Sorry about my questions and thank you in advance for your kind attention.

A machine rated to use #80 or #100 needles is not going to work for you. It is certainly a light duty post machine for use on shoe uppers, moccasins, or soft leather hats, using very light weight thread, not exceeding #69 bonded. A #100 needle will just barely feed #69 thread. It is better limited to #46 bonded, or T50 cloth thread.

Hi! Wiz, thank you very much for the reply which has helped me to narrow down my choice. Will wait for the right machine for this hobby.

Sorry here I am again. There is one thing I don't understand. If the sewing machine will take the needle size from 80-100, but the suggested thread size is up to syn 30/3 (#138-207), the diameter is larger than the 100 needle can take, how can that happen?

You have misinterpreted the numbers 30/3. Here is what thread they represent: "Regular Jean Thread 30/3 T-60"

Thank you for the answer, that is not easy for me to figure out the various thread systems!

Now there is a machine I might be able to get, a Pfaff 545-H3-6/01-CSMN-8. Searching on the internet, there are some with CLPMN, so the CSMN means C -- for heavy material, S -- for fabrics, am I right? The machine is with MAJER 5000 F3 HP0.5 W370 moter, is this the right type of moter if I want to sew slow?
