Can Roughout Be Restored?

Recommended Posts

Hi I am wondering if roughout on a saddle can be restored? I though I saw a local ad some time back were they were able to restore roughout. Any help would be appreciated.

Some 100 grit sandpaper would probley work if you want to pull the nap back up. Try in a small place that won't be seen if you try it to see how it looks.

What about a brass brush? That way it'll pull up the fibers without cutting too many of them. Then again, if it's worn smooth, sanding might be the better option.

You didn't say what's wrong with it

Dried out? The leather can be brought back like any other, but oils / conditioners are easier to apply from the grain side (or maybe that's just the way I'm used to). Leather is leather, whether it's facing north or south. :Lighten:
