Springfield Leather

Ordered some stuff from Springfield Leather last Friday, including 2 HO single bends sight unseen, which makes me a little nervous. .Someone called from Springfield that day and left a message that they were out of the shearling pads I had ordered. My wife listened to the message and erased it, then told me about it the following Monday night. I called Tuesday afternoon to check on the order, and they had held it waiting for a response from me.(thanks Honey) I asked that they take the shearling off the order and go ahead and ship it, this was about 3:30,4:00pm. I believe I talked to Emma, she was apologetic about the delay, and I told her it was fine, my wife could have told me about the call much sooner. I received an email an hour lather that the order had shipped. I received the order Friday, with 2 beautiful pcs of HO belt bends, 8/9 oz, and misc other stuff. And a nice note from Emma. I had one other order from SL, had ordered the scrap bag of elephant hide,as part of the order, and received one piece of elephant about 6"x2". I emailed Kevin about the error and again received an almost instant email back with an apology and a ship notice on a bag of elephant. I love these guys, very friendly and courteous, and quick to deal with problems. The only thing that would make it better is if they sent a free sewing machine with every order...

One thing I know, there will eventually be an issue with an order, or service or whatever. What makes all the difference is the response. Springfield Leather has my business for a long time to come. I am not affiliated with SL, nor am I having an affair with Emma.

Guess I'm in the wrong business, or maybe I just read that wrong. You ordered TWICE, they were late both times, one back order and one sent wrong stuff, two appologies in two orders, ... and you're HAPPY? Well, okay ...

you should maybe read again...they called the day I ordered to let me know they were out of the shearling- my wife didn't tell me for several days. Springfield took care of it immediately when I called them. The elephant hide scrap bag was a small part of the order, the rest of the order was fine, and when I emailed Kevin, he promptly took care of it. I have no issue with that, and was pleased that it was dealt with promptly .He could have easily disputed that I didn't receive what I had ordered.

Here's my two cents on Springfield Leather. I've ordered lots of times from them, and have had nothing but good luck with them. Their products are good, very reasonably priced, and their staff is extremely friendly. I just got through with a project that I had to order leather from them. After a miscalculation on my part, they were even willing to take back the leather that I had ordered that wouldn't work. And, we're talking about a piece that was cut to size for my project. SL will be getting my $$ for a long time. I've even turned some of my friends onto them as well, and they love SL.

My experiences with Springfield Leather Company have all been positive. Kevin, J'Nae, and Emma are all very responsive to every need and request and have gone out of their way to assure satisfaction every time.

I'm using 30-40 sq. ft. of HO sides every week, but have only enough room to stock about 8 sides at a time, so I am ordering every few weeks. There is no one I would trust more than the folks at Springfield Leather.

FWIW from the old grumpy guy; I've used SL for a while now, but back a couple of months ago I had a couple of orders for holsters with matching , wide, gunbelts in the 50"+ size range . I don't make many 2 1/2 ' belts, and I make all of my holsters from shoulder leather and I sure as hell didn't need to spend the bucks for a heavy weight bend. I called SL for a couple of heavy 72" strips cut for me. The sweet young thing that answered my call told me that it would be no problem, but that she could off an alternative --- for less money. She offered pre-cut stirrup strips which worked out perfectly, again, at a better cost. Some time later I spoke with another young lady that requested information as to my primary type of work. The upshot of that discussion is that she placed me on some sort of list that advises me by email of specials which fit my kind of work specifically. Any outfit that takes care of their customers in the way SL does, is pretty damned good in my book. I figure that I'll stick with them. Mike

I have been dealing with SLC for a few years. I have actually been to the store a couple of times (I'm from the East coast). They are a class operation. Have they messed-up and order, of course they have. Has a complaint about an order been unsatisfactorily addressed, yes that has happened too. However, when I contacted Kevin, once by email and once is a blistering phone call, things were addressed, embarrassingly, in my favor. In their favor, my orders are sometimes technically complicated and I am a picky SOB, read into that what you may. If you have a problem, call and talk to Kevin, he can work something to help you out. I've never seen a retail operation that is as interested in successful outcomes for their customers.

I agree with all that's been said. Their customer service harkens back to when the customer was really important to a business' success. The only time I've ever had to email Kevin was to make sure he knew his people were the tops in customer service.

I think Art caught the real point of why SL is so great to work with. Yes, every retailer makes shipping mistakes. When you're working in volume it happens. But the difference at Springfield is that they actually want to get you the supplies you want, and they're willing to work with you to do it. They don't just have a generic return policy. They do actually take the time to understand your needs and never try to move on to the next customer.

Last Summer I called to ask about their new patent leather bundle that hadn't been put on the website yet. I asked if it would be possible to request one color in the bundle because I knew I had project coming up. Not only did they confirm that they had the color in stock and they would make sure it was included while I still got the bundle price, they pulled the specific leather off the shelf and went over the defects with me to make sure it would work for what I had in mind. Now I'm not one of their big customers who works with them every few weeks. I make a couple of orders a year and they're usually a couple hundred dollars each. That's what I call making an effort for your customers.

I live close to them so I've never had anything shipped but I can tell you that they will go the extra mile every time to make sure you're happy. I've always felt that they go above and beyond what any other leather store would do for me and would highly recommend them to anyone.

When I went in the first time I'd never done any leather work at all but had an idea of making a pool cue case. Kevin took the time to listen to what I had in mind and gave me some great advice on what I needed to get to get the job done. What really surprised me was he didn't try and sell me a bunch of things I didn't need like a lot places would have done, but instead he told me the bare essentials I would need to do the project. I had some things already picked out that I thought I needed (but really didn't) and he was honest enough to say you really don't need that, and guided me in the right and cheaper direction. He even took the time to show me how easy it would be to learn to do some basic tooling to enhance the project by doing a quick floral tooling demo for me. To me that's putting the customer first!

I have to agree with everything said. I've only made 2 orders from them, but I find myself going to their site first if I need anything. The first order I had they called me first thing in the morning to let me know that they didn't have any sides in the size I had ordered, only 2 sq ft larger. Instead of just shipping the larger side and charging me without permission like most companies would, they wanted to make sure it was OK before they did it. On my last order I had ordered some of the same shearling pads that were out of stock. Again, before the end of the day they had me on the phone to figure out what I wanted to do, either remove it from my order or get a replacement synthetic item.

I would much rather have a company that goes out of their way to take care of the customers and make sure they're meeting my needs then deal with a leather version of WalMart who's only interest is in shoving out as much product as possible as quick as possible.

Glad to hear we could help. If you're buying a lot of stuff, definitely look at their wholesale club. The $35 cost paid for itself on my first order. Since then I've saved bundles on all the little stuff I've needed.

Kevin, Jnae and Emma are top notch. Ive used them a couple of years now. I live close enough to make a trip to the store every few weeks, but mostly just order online. They seem to know exactly what I need before I do so I dont have to make the trip. By far the easiest place to order from and the nicest, helpful folks Ive ever seen. I feel guilty if I have to call Weaver if they make a mistake on my order, but SLC is no problem if they happen to make one, even if its my mistake. Good people.

i've been ordering from Springfield since the mid '90s. NOTHING but good to say about Kevin and the girls. was down in Texas in the "craft shop" (some of you know what i mean) when i got turned on to SP, never had a issue, and Kevin NEVER takes advantage of that situation. in fact, he does his best to help those guys. Kevin will get the bulk of my orders cause "he gets it"
