Wichita Falls Boot Abnd Saddle Show Coming Up!

Recommended Posts

Anyone planning on attending this event? If you are in the area I highly advise attending. I had only been working with leather a couple months when I went last year.... All that I have learned since has me kicking myself in the butt for not buying more while I was there!

Any ways, its a great show, vendors from all over. And some really good deals on tools and leather!

Here is a link to their page.

Sent my entry fee in a couple of months ago. Started my shopping list already. Can't decide if I will go Friday or wait until Saturday and hope I can win one of the $250 certificates to spend at the show. Friday seems to be a better day as far as selection of some leather goes.

Yeah I'll be in if for the long haul on Saturday hoping they call my name for the $250. I was kind of ignorant to the leather world when I went last year, this year i am definatly going to have to leave the credit and debit cards at home and just take a responsible amount of cash.

It's kinda funny, I posted this thread earlier today at work and had a flyer in the mail forthe show when I got home today!

I will be there on Friday and some Saturday morning. I get to pick up some new toys on Saturday from Cobra Steve. A cobra 14 splitter, 10 ton clicker press, class 18 flatbed sewing machine. I save all year for this show you can get some great deals. This has also become a yearly trip for my dad and I. He is 80 years old and looks forward to coming with me to the show. Mcbrides steak house is a must do for us as well.

I'm going to have to avoid the cobra booth. Don't know if I can trust myself... Gotta leave the plastic at home too.

Hey, Rich be sure and look me up. I will be there Friday and Saturday morning as well.. Looks like you are going to have a truck load going home. Good for you! You are going to love that Class 14 splitter. I thought about a clicker, but I don't do enough repetitive work to justify. I planning to bring a class 18 home also, replacing the Artisan 797AB after about 12 very productive and trouble free years. See you there!

I got both the Cobra Class 14 splitter and the 10 ton clicker in the past 9 months. What great additions. You will love them both. I'll be at the show as well. Also, now that you will have a clicker, I would recommend Texas Custom Dies for your dies. They make great dies and are great people and are in Mansfield Tx. I think they will be a vendor at the show as well, they were there last year.

Who can I talk to at Wichita Falls to get a Servo Motor for a Singer 111G156 that I picked up this week?

I have two other compound feed machines (Consew 225 & Singer 111W153) that I'm doing fine with clutch motors on, but I think I want to get acquainted with my first Servo Motor. This 111G156 came to me with a Singer S-463161 clutch motor powering it, and I don't even know if it works yet. I've been cleaning and replacing parts on the head, and haven't gotten to the stand and motor yet. I did notice that the control box has a capacitor in it, and the switch has been damaged by something getting against the switch lever and driving the entire switch back into the back of the box. I doubt that I'll have it up and running until after the Wichita Falls event, so I think I'll go ahead and spring for a Servo while you guys are close.

I don't know what size of motor that I need, so I'll explain what kind of work I will be doing with the machine. At our Mom & Pop fabric and sewing shop, we do repairs to light leather and faux leather items (garment leather, motorcycle saddlebags, purses), replace zippers (insulated coats & coveralls), sew embroidered patches on leather garments, and repair a variety of woven and man-made fabric items (dog beds, awnings, vinyl covers). We do a little production work (Sunbrella, Duck, or Marine Vinyl), but we don't plan to do any heavy leather. We usually do short runs and want to go slow with good control. We probably use more thread starting and stopping or changing thread colors than we do actually sewing.

While I'm at it, I have another question. Will the same Servo Motor be appropriate for either of the other two machines that I have, if I ever wanted to swap them around to do the same type of work?

It will depend on which vendors are there. Last year there were several vendors that deal in sewing machines and accessories. Nick-O-Sew has all sorts of motors available, Leather Machine Co. will probably be there as well. I am 100% positive that there will be a vendor you can talk to that will be able to help you out. If you pre-registered you should pick up the vendor list at the registration desk, it lists who is there and what they specialize in. Just 2 more days until it starts, my only hope is that I can minimize my expenditures and not come home broke from buying too many goodies!

I didn't hear back from any of the Dealers on here, so I decided not to go to Wichita Falls. I'll pick up a Servo later on down the road. I can probably have one shipped to me about as cheap as making the trip. If I went, and couldn't get the Servo that I need, it would have been a waste of money. I love the smell of the leather in the room (I went last year), but right now I can't spend the money just to go "smiff da leather". It's just that I was hoping to throw a little business to you guys that make this site possible, and meet you at the same time. Did any of you Dealers on here attend?

CDthayer, I think you have a misunderstanding regarding the advertisers for the forum. The support they lend makes the forum possible without you as a user having to pay a fee. They are businesses and monitoring individual posts on the forum isn't always possible or feasible. I also think that you have a misunderstanding with regard to your needs, ANY servo motor will work with your sewing machine, the motor simply turns, operating your machine. You will probably want a servo motor with a speed reducer of some sort. Like I posted to your original question, there were at least 4 different vendors that could have helped you. The prices at the show are usually better than you can get with regular ordering. Besides the price you missed out on the ability to have a face to face discussion with experts that would have been more than willing to assist you. This year was my third time to attend the Wichita Falls show, every time I have gone I have learned something and made excellent contacts for my future needs. Best part of going is meeting the people and finding some fantastic deals you won't find elsewhere. How about a Cayman hide for $50, not a junk hide a quality hide, several other deals on leather just as good. It would have been worth the drive and the $10.

You should have! Great show pricing. I picked up a new Cobra 18 to replace my Artisan 797AB. I got a couple of those Caiman skins mentioned above, as well as quite a lot of various exotics from Jerry Van Amburg. Placed a nice order with Wickett & Craig, which arrived here yesterday. I was a bit disappointed that Wayne Jueschke was not there this year, as I always find a new stamp or two from him. Ruby Leather had some good prices (for this day and time) on Barge cement and thinner so I hauled a few gallons home. Also ran into "WyoSheen"by the gallon at Bob Douglas' spread and eliminated the hazardous fee to ship that home. I did get a really nice 1/8" beader blade for swivel knife from Barry King and had a good visit with Bob Beard. This was my fifteenth or so attendance. It's well worth the expense to make the trip.
