Van Amburg Leather

Recommended Posts

This Spring I met this down-to-earth tall hippy dude at Sheridan who had some of the most usual exotic leathers I've ever seen. He took the time to explain a little about some of the ones that really caught my eye, and was very friendly.

I just got off of the phone with him- he has relocated from California to Idaho where he is catching 20 lb. trout when he's not busy with leather related jobs. He says he's got a large selection of leathers available. His name is Jerry.

Phone is: (208) 785-0800 jerry@vanamburgleathers.com

He does a lot of custom work, so he can advise you how to get the most out of exotics like stingray, elephant, frogs, snakes, and animals you would never guess they would make leather from. Here is his site: http://vanamburgleathers.com/blogpics/

just ignore the CA info. If you contact him, tell him Johanna from Leatherworker.net sent you.

Just checked out the site there, and he does have lots and lots of cool stuff.

As you looked at the stuff in person perhaps you can tell us what sort of prices does he ask for generally?

As far as prices, you just have to call him. This stuff is priced all over the scale. He is a cool guy to talk to, honest to a fault about each piece he is going to send you. I have mostly dealt with him at the shows, but have phone ordered a few times too.

A few years ago we were at the Sheridan show. Jim Linnel's intro class for the kids just let out, and some of them were wandering through the big room at the trade show. Every kid that came by, Jerry was just handing them a free frog skin. Even if they didn't look his way, he sought them out. "Dude, this is probably the only thing they are going to be able to walk out of this room with. I just gotta do it, man!"

I met Jerry at the Elko, Nv show last year. Super nice guy. My wife & I must have talked to him for 45 minutes. What a character. I'll definitely be doing business with him again.
