I thought I'd make myself a tool kit so I could take a few tools with me when I travel. Maybe carry a few rounds or something to work on. Make a few coasters I guess. I haven't decided if I'm going to sew it or lace it.

Nice work I think lace would look real good. By the way I noticed a slight problem when I click on the photos, It fills my whole screen with no controls to minimize or close it. It could be my computer as I just upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10 but it does not happen on any other photos posted by others

I think your right. I've had alittle time to think on it. Lace would look nice. When I open the picture it has an x in the upper right corner to close it. Not sure what the deal is. I'll try a lower setting on my camera and see what happens.

How did you do the loops to hold the tools I don't see any stitching at all.I've been curious as to how to do that.

Could you maybe post pictures of the back?If you don't mind me asking that is.

I dont mind at all. Thats what this forum is all about. Helping each other and sharing ideas to improve our craft. I made the loops using the same method you would use to make cartridge loops for a gun belt. I cut the strip for the loops 1 1/4" then weaved it in and out of the slots. I put the tools in and tighened the loops and glued the 2 ends in place. The strips and slots can be any size you need them to be.

Looks cool. Just FYI the pics work perfect for me, no oversizing.

Thank you. I just got through with the first coat of stain. When it dries and I get it laced I'll post another picture of it.

I think I have narrowed it down to the size issue. My screen is 1440x900 so the picture expanded past the controls to close it. I finally figured out how to reduce the no squint settings until I could access them with my mouse. Guess it is a trade off between my old eyeballs and the add on software in firefox. LOL, without it my poor eyes can't read the text and all the other font adjustments just don't look right. Funny how it does not happen with other pictures though. Dang this new fangled technology stuff. My dad used to say thank goodness he retired before he had to suffer through learning how to use the things. I do have a few pangs of nostalgia for the prepersonal computer eara ( early 1970's for those who think there have always been computers, ipods, CD's and such) If you wanted one you had to build it with a HeathKit and it pertty much did nothing but turn little lights on and off. We've come along way baby! to paraphrase a popular commercial of the time. Sort of got off subject a little sorry, I do like your stuff and am waiting to see the finished project.

Looks really nice! Great idea with the loops too. I would have added another flap to keep the business ends of the tools from touching, but thats just me.

Course, my carry bag is a nylon laptop carry bag that has a divider in it so I put one of my marble slabs in the back and the original Nature Tand box with my current projects in it with a ziploc bag of tools. :P Gets kinda heavy with the marble, but it has most of what I need.

Mind if I swipe your idea? ;)

Thanks guys. I put a thin peice of leather in there to keep the tools from knocking together. All and all it works pretty good.

Very nicely done, I can't think of any other way to better protect your tools, I have mine loose knocking against each other or still in there plastic wrapping. The wood blocks okay but take up too much room. Thanks for sharing, I must attempt this sometime & tidy up my work bench! )
