carr52 Report post Posted March 19, 2009 Well I didn't get that golden color I was looking for on the first attempt so I'm trying again. Maybe I didn't leave it out in the sun long enough. Troy is right, sometimes it takes a day or two, just make sure it's in a place where a "critter" won't get to it! I had a Squirrel chew on a piece I put out. The card holder I showed you before was only 8 hours, but that was a very hot & sunny day in direct Panama City sun. This saddle was about 1 1/2 days in West Palm Beach Fl sun. You might try adding a little more oil also. I would try it on a test piece first. It will take a few tries before you get exactly what you are looking for. Good Luck, Ed BTW I live in SC now also. carr52 Report post Posted March 23, 2009 Here's the finished product. I had to redo the interior cause in a moment of, for lack of a better word "stupid" I punched a hole in it. Bummer. Oh well, alls well that ends well. Now to try and find something else to do. Cant do any carving till I get my glasses back from the eye doc. She said it will be about 10 working days. Space them closer togeather and closer to the egde, it gives a "fuller" look to the lace. Slots tend to look better than holes too. Take a Sharpie and color the white edge of the lining leather. Fast and easy, you can get brown or black Sharpies, so no matter what color liner you used, you are covered. The insert/liner should be 1/8" shorter than the back, it allows for the fold to happen without a bunched up lump. Allow for the space in the center bottom when you lace. If you guys don't give me the benefit of your experience I will have to do it the hard way by trial and error. Although trying is a lot of fun doing it right is more fun. That middle piece isn't attached to anything, it just floats in there and slides into the pocket when you close the wallet. It seems to work pretty good, so far.
