Lubertos Classic, who has one?

Recommended Posts

All,

Who here has or has sewn on a Classic??? I am checking the web site out, looks like an interesting machine that might have a purpose for my shop!

Thoughts, opines, photos???

Thanks,

Andy

PS How much do they charge for these???

I had one. I wish I still had it. They are nice and will sew through very thick leather. They have an ingenious foot that can be shifted left or right and avoids the need for multiple feet. I believe they are about $5000 or more new with table and motor.

If you are curious, I had to raise money after I was laid off to make up some house payments. Otherwise I would have kept it.

If you have the cash, Campbell Bosworth is also nice.

I have one, had it for 8 years, Simple to use and adjust. I think it is a great machine. Even with a clutch motor it is easy to use. Put a servo and speed reducer on one and it would be AWSOME for a beginner to learn on. Book is good too. Hope this helps. Ken

I do not have one, nor have I seen one in person, but a fellow I know very well in the leather machine industry, said the machine has a very weak upper thread tension mechanism. One set of tension disks are not enough for sewing very thick material. Just something to look into. Good luck!

That is not true!!!! I have one and it will pull a very tight stitch. Of course, you have to be able to adjust the tensions as with any machine. I saw some work that had very loose stitches several years ago and it had been sewn on a machine exactly like mine, right down to the color. Apparently he did not adjust the thread tension very well.

Amazing how some Dealers will say anything to run down their competition isn't it. Ken

Ken,

Thanks for the insight and clarification on the machine. I know what you mean about the dealers. Thanks again!

Sometimes, I will double loop the top thread through the tension disks, and/or, triple wrap it around the guide post. This adds more top tension, which you can counterbalance on the bobbin spring.
