Landis # 1 Price?

Recommended Posts

I may have a chance to buy a good Landis # 1 within easy driving distance. So I am wondering if anyone on here might have bought, sold or known of one changing hands in the last couple of years and at what price. I am not new to sewing machines just not familiar with the price these are bringing. I would like to get a clue as to what it might be worth.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Saw one bring $1200 at an auctions last fall. It sewed but I would not call real good. I have a very good one but I am not about to sell it.

200 would be a good price for the ancient machine. Parts are no longer made needles are almost as plentiful as hens teeth. It would be good conversation piece. Good luck.

c´mon - $200 is ridiculous!

Only because parts are no longer made does not make it to a piece of scrap metal.

It´s the same with oldtimer vehicles, you just have to be patient and you have to have some extra space to store it.

I think everything below $1000 is a good deal if it is working but that does not mean that it is not worth some more.

I would buy one too if I had the chance and some extra $.

As constabulary Said most I worth money lots of parts can be found or made. If under $1000 , I don't think you'll get hurt but try looking it over for really worn areas and missing parts keep the price where your comfortable. Hope it works out well and you get a good one . Gary

I gave right at $1000 for mine last spring. It may be old, but it does a great job, and there's not too many pieces that you can't build or rebuild on it. I'd say anything around that price would be pretty good from what I've seen.

Who am I to say that old is not great. Sewing good would be the key to determining whether or not it's worth is around $1000 or way less. And if it has or ever has had a motor, shy away. Do you have a machinist close at hand cause you might need one. My own personal experience from long ago was that I got tired of buying and fixing up so I dug deep for a new (in my case Union Lock) and went to sewing instead of bargain hunting. Now there's way more to pick from with the Cobras and Cowboys and more!

Thanks for all the good advice. I still do not know for sure if this lady will sell, hers son says its about time since her husband died 10 years ago. I have a cowboy 4500 plus 4 other machines, each with its own limitations and abilities, that sew leather I am just wondering if this one might also have a place here.

Keep the good advice and opinions coming all are valuable to me.

Not yet the widow doesn't seem in any hurry to make up her mind and the son hasn't gotten back to me. It isn't advertised just that I knew the guy and they know I am interested. So I am waiting to see if they make up their mind.
