Best Adhesive / Glue To Use?

Recommended Posts

We need to adhere leather swatches to pieces of mat board. Quite a large scale so cost is a concern. We've had limited success at present. The types we have tried works okay for the short term, but comes undone after a few weeks. We need a permanant adhesive at a competitive price. I'd appreciate suggestions as well as sourcing options.

Attached is an example of what the final product is.post-18511-091702400 1300375594_thumb.jp

I was going to suggest contact adhesive, but it would be hard to apply consistently, evenly, quick and inside your square grid quickly enough for your sample boards. You might try something like the gel-type super glue since it's easy to apply , and you'd only have to apply it to your mat board (vs. contact cement needing to be applied to both surfaces and also needing some drying time). I assume you've tried some of the better double-stick tapes (not poster tape)?

The super glue (or related glues) might be expensive, but in the end, it will probably the be the fastest method making it more cost effective.

Find some E6000. It is like silicone on steroids. It will hold and still be flexable.

Thanks for efforts. We've used Fevicol rubber adhesive in the past, but that is only available in India. We're starting production in the USA. so need a domestic source.

You might try Barge Contact Cement if you're familiar with the rubber cement approach & workflow.

Gorilla Glue has started making a white, non-expanding version of their insanely strong glue. Easy to apply from the bottle and strong as hell. Water & heat resistant when dry. You have to want it to come off (and have a chisel nearby) for it to come off whatever you put it on.
