  1. So as per title, this is my first piece I have attempted. I got into this due to my wanting a card wallet, so I decided to just make one CC please!! From what I can tell: 1) Stitching needs work as I don't know how to end off a run properly, so it's just find a hole and cut. 2) My corners are not universal, and some aren't even properly done. I used a ring as my form, but it kept on moving, so I just went with my eyes. I need a decent blade as well, this stanley knife is just not cutting it, to be blunt Thoroughly enjoyed making it! Will take my time with the next one when I have the proper tools.
  2. For those who are from SA, it seems Springfieldleather.com are coming through for me. Just waiting for a shipping quote. Will be rather hefty for a complete hide, but they sell 12"x12" squares. Perfect for smaller projects, and my pocket.
  3. Well golly, might as well throw my name in here as well! I am from Jozi (South)
  4. Hey all, I have mentioned in my first post in the announcement thread that I am in the process of trying to find leather here in South Africa that matches Horween or something similar. Unfortunately, no one in this country stocks anything of the sort, and it is all imported from India. It's really not good leather at all. What I am looking for is suppliers in the states, or the UK or anywhere really that offer Horween or the like for export to South Africa. I am extremely new to this, so I am only really familiar with the Horween leather for quality wallets and the like. I am looking for any leather that will stand up to the scrutiny of places such as Tanner Goods, Saddleback and the like. There is a market here for that type of wallet, bags and such and no one really knows of the brands. They go with a local guy or two who charge $100+ for chrome leather wallets But yeah, for now I am practicing on the veg tan that I have @5oz thickness, but would love to get a 2oz hide for the card holders and what not, and of course a thicker hide for the actual shell. But finding quality....yeah, it's proving difficult. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Hey Eccho, I have actually tried them already. They only sell in 100m rolls, and no veg tan Much appreciated though!!
  6. Good day all, I have taken a keen interest in this here leather thing, and have enjoyed perusing the site for the past day or two. So much so that today I went out and bought $200 worth of tools and some veg tan leather to try and have a go with. I must say though, being in South Africa, finding quality leather is extremely difficult. It as taken numerous emails and phone calls to try and source a simple veg tan hide, and only 2 places in the country sell that I can find. Why this is so is beyond me, especially when we have cows and goats and and and for days! So after my little outing, I have tried my hand on a quick card holder. It is extremely rough, but with proper tools, I believe I can make this work Just seriously need to find leather worthwhile buying. I have actually started scouting online in the States to see if anyone ships here...would seriously love some Horween stuff. Heck, anything that will make a premium wallet. Anyway, enough ramblings, I will bring my needs to the forum in another thread, but for now I say... HOWZIT!
