  1. this is awesome! I'm lovin it!! tutorial! tutorial!!
  2. cause I'm new and don't know any better lmao, and just trying to make sure I can preserve it the best I can. Standard crap..so many things to use and so many opinions..OVERLOAD!! ..lol so the resolene is fine on it's own then? would you add anything else to keep it protected against the elements? I have airbrushed 2 coats of resolene on and plan on a third tomorrow..thougths on that? btw..thanks for taking the time to respond. much appreciated.
  3. I have a leather piece dyed, and now sealed with resolene ( edges are sealed with tan cote). it's to go outside on a bike..I'm thinkin could I use neat oil on it and then a coat of sno paste? or maybe a coat of angelus acrylic finisher after the resolene? or maybe the neatsfoot oil and then angelus? hmm or what about just spraying some tan cote over after the resolene? lol looking to preserve this piece that's gonna be outside in the elements..who's got any input.. lol..anyone out there got 2 cents they'd like to throw in here? always appreciated...fire when ready!?
  4. damn! now that's original! how are you gonna keep it from the elements? love it though! love to see the updates after it's on the bike.
  5. Been trying out new techniques and tips and tricks and dyes and paints. Here's a couple of projects I've done since my last post. Comments and thoughts all welcome. I've decided I prefer Fiebings to dye with, angelus to accent with and well the finish so far is a toss up between resolene or angelus clear ( matte/high gloss)..still undecided. As for waterproofing and weather proofing..well..I'm still working on that :/ always love to hear anyone elses methods of prep and preserving. I find my biggest concern is making sure my stuff will last.
  6. nope..no laquer..used resolene..50/50 mix..couple of light coats..the leather I got from tandy on sale..figured perfect thickness for a weight lifting belt for a friend of mine. can I use neatsfoot oil on it even after it's been dyed and sealed and finished? I have some Dr.Jacksons pure neatsfoot oil ..would I just wash down the belt perhaps to help remove the wax finish I put on it then neatsfoot oil? or just put the neatsfoot oil on as is..
  7. so I took a shot at a weight lifting belt..( woman's belt size small) used a sole bend from tandy that was on sale..1/4 inch thick. I cut it, tooled it, dyed it, oiled it and then sealed it...then of course hand stitched it ( which has taken me forever and a day it seems)..and assembled it. I have a few issues however :/ the buckle prongs are a little stiff but I'm guessing that will loosen up..not to worried there..what I AM worried about is the leather itself is cracking!!?? can anyone tell me why and what I can do if anything at this point? I have sewn on a piece of suede to the back and the entire piece is done...or so I thought.... help would be hugely appreciated....anyone..someone...:/
  8. Great idea..yup..I'll be stealin' this also lol
  9. Ive seen tons of burnishing tools some online for $1 from china and ebay, others made of coco somethin or other for considerably more(sorry cant remember the name of the wood right now)..some made of pine from arts and craft stores others plastic from leather shops....so many varieties..is there a real difference? Is one better than the other? Are there types to stear clear of?? What are your thoughts and views?
  10. well to be honest I have NO IDEA what I'm doing at this point lol..I had original figured to cut the top shape, tool it then make smaller pieces for the backs and side of embossed alligator leather ..but not sure if that's going to work so I have pretty much abandoned the idea..now I'm thinking if I get a 3x3 ( roughly) piece of upholstery leather or perhaps ( but really don't want to ) vinyl I can stitch the top piece on with a double loop stitch using kangaroo lace and then fit it over the seat and wrap it under..cut off the excess after and..viola! I'm hoping anyway..I'd so open for any suggestions at this point! I have looked on line and through forums for hours and have found tons on bobber/chopper pans etc..nice and low seat pans no real sides. and I've seen vids and info on re-wrapping a seat with vinyl and leather..just no tooling included. so I'm taking what I've seen on all the vids, what I've heard from the forums and advice and trying to add in a little logic and common sense and well..hopin for the best really.
  11. I have seen his work before and to say the least his stuff is incredible and inspirational! Unfortunately the seat I am trying to cover is a 'cruiser" seat not a bobber/chopper seat. I have tried wrapping the edges and the thicker leathers seem to be trying my patience as well as my learning curve to say the least lol..I have added a better picture to help explain better..
  12. I'm looking for leather that I can cover my motorcycle seat with..like vinyl I guess is the only way I can describe what I'm looking for ..the same pliability, the same flex and wrap-ability ( new word) I had the original idea to cut the top of the seat and stitch that to alligator embossed sides..good in my head..not so good in reality. embossed leather doesn't wrap worth a damn! so I was thinking of just stitching it to a piece of leather and covering my seat with it now..can anyone recommend the type of leather I'd be looking for? ( not vinyl) below is what I have started...
  13. so update on the seat deal..MMleathercraft..all my foam I bought was from sunmatecushions.com ..if you email them they'll send you a sample pack of the foams and the density so you can actually see and feel them before you buy them..i have a couple layers of firm and then topped it with pudgee..it's like memory foam gel..awesome stuff! Great customer service and people to deal with! Also the plan to stitch the top to alligator embossed has gone to hell in a hand bag so to speak..seems the alligator embossed leather is to stiff and awkward to bend..so now I'm stuck with a top and nothing for the sides..anyone? I was thinking about stitching the top to a piece of black dyed leather..preferably something softer than regular veg tan...more like a vinyl flexibiliy ( but has to be leather) ..can anyone suggest a fairly inexpensive leather? grade? type? garment leather? anyone? figured I'd stitch the top and just wrap it around and under the edges..
