A new seat for a client in New York.

Old artwork but it still looks pretty good.

Old design maybe but somethings old get better with age. It's hard to beat a great design.

Just out of curiosity, where do you guys get the metal part to make seats? The seat frame I guess it would be called.

Are they made from steel or aluminum or maybe fiberglass?

Joel,

The seat pan in this case is commercially available. This seat is going on a Sucker Punch motorcycle in New York and the brand of seat that Sucker Punch uses is West Eagle. West Eagle makes their pans available and also plain complete seats. They are steel.

Even if the design wasn't that great, you'd make it look good.

Can't wait to see it finished.

Hey Shirley,

This was one of ..... maybe the first tattoo style seat that I ever did. It showed well at the IFoLG show in Columbus and now a customer in New York wants one for his new Sucker Punch bike.

Glad to hear that you are getting out the tools again.... getting back into seats or going another direction this time?

Hang in there things are bound to get better.

Looking good David. I notice in the updated pictures that you altered the scales on the dragon's back when you cut them from what you had when you traced/drew them. Any insights as to why? Was it due to a scaling (no pun intended) issue or simply a layout change or...?

Just curious...always educational to hear why folks do certain things.

It was simply a layout change.

The linework will be covered by detailing the scales at a later time.

Ok,

Tooling is finished and the seat is now built.... Things should pick up a bit from here.

I use closed cell neoprene. Purchased from Foam and More in Michigan.

and I thought tooling some Sheridan patterns was intricate. That is great, and I don't even like motorcycles.

David, Shirley and Bob,

Thanks so much for the kind words. It is messages like these that keep me going. I appreciate them very much. Shirley, no need to wait til the new year, you can get out that sketch book and do your thing. That way, all you need is leather when you finally have the time....... I'm anxious to see what you come up with.....

Take care all of you and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy and prosperous New Year.

Best to everyone,

Dave
