New Texan With Leatherbug

Recommended Posts

New guy here and to the leather world in general. I am really interested in making holsters, wallets, belts and such. I have been doing a lot of reading and have already learned quite a bit here. Seems like a good bunch. :cowboy:

Hi! Welcome aboard! I have learned a lot from these folks on the forum. I see that you are near San Antonio. Have you hooked up with the classes at the Walzem Rd Tandy store? Fred Pheil conducts the classes there on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays starting at 10 AM. $10.00 a class. Fred is a expert at making holsters and belts and you can learn a lot from him. I think he has about 60 years of experience.

Thanks JJ. I'll look into that. I've got a lot to learn. Spent plenty of time working steel and wood, but leather is a whole different animal... I could use all the help I can get!

Welcome aboard, if you like to travel some or just happen to get near Fort Worth, do two things, eat a steak at H3, and go the the Al Stohlman museum at the TLC just off I-820. I live in Georgia but go to Texas often, this is the "main" store for Tandy and the museum is a natural treasure.

Hi Max, I am fairly new to leatherworking myself, started back in the summer. I have been going to the Tandy Store on Walzem, and I can tell you from a novices point of view, Fred is a great teacher, and a great person. If you can make it up hopefully wer will see you at the classes. Just wanted to add be aware that the store location is changing from Walzem road to I-35 and Weidner in San Antonio sometime in January 2011.
