Printers Blocks----

Recommended Posts

I,m sure that some folks on this site have experience with using printers block to stamp leather.

My question is; What is the best way to clean used printers blocks?

I have obtained several and they are still covered with the inks and need to be cleaned before I can use them on leather.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

God bless.

Ray

I've seen talk of people using them, but never any mention of cleaning them. I would try acetone first. That will clean a lot of stuff. Also break cleaner could work quite well.

Soak them in paraffin (kerosene) for a couple of days, then brush the printing area vigorously with a bristle or stiff nylon brush. If any ink remains, soak again and repeat the process.

I would not soak them if they have the wooden backing that many of them have. I have used acetone, lacquer thinner and the one that works amazingly well is "goof off". Keep cleaning till no more color comes off when you are wiping it, use a swab in the cracks.

Thanks Amigos.

I will try without soaking first as they are backed by wood. Think it will be another fun project.

God Bless.

Also, I use a tooth brush to get into the nooks and crannies......
